In order to study the ice adhesion strength on concrete that coated with hydrophobic materials, the ice adhesion strength tests of four different hydrophobic coated concretes and uncoated control group were carried out. In addition, the application performance of hydrophobic coated concrete slope protection for reservoirs in cold regions was studied in which Hongqipao Reservoir in Heilongjiang Province was taken as an example. The results show that the ice adhesion strength is increased with the increasing material roughness; hydrophobic materials can reduce the ice adhesion strength, the water repellent paint coating have the best effect on reducing the ice adhesion strength, and followed by polyurethane waterproof asphalt. Under the conditions of the maximum ice thickness of 122m in 10 a recurrence period, the ice cover can slip upward from the concrete slab which coated with waterproof paint and roughness less than 04μm when the temperature of ice cover increased 362℃.
