Abstract:A smoke and smell suppressant for road asphalt was developed experimentally. The effects of smoke suppressant and odor remover on the smoke emission and odor level of asphalt were investigated. The content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, weight loss of asphalt and the content of mercaptan were analyzed by the liquid chromatography, thermogravimetric method, and titration method. The results show that the emissions of bituminous smoke decrease from 6.0g/kg to 3.5g/kg, and the odor grade changes from grade 4 to grade 0 when the SBS mass fraction is 2.0%, Mg(OH)2 is 0.4%, and the oxidant is 0.2%. The smoke suppressant and odor remover reduce the content of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in the bitumen, the content of thiol, the smoke emission from the bitumen and the odor grade. Meanwhile, they raise the thermal decomposition temperature. The performance of modified asphalt meets the requirements for road asphalt.
