The bending beam rheometer test and the single edge notch bending test were performed and the applicability of the indicators including creep stiffness, fracture toughness and fracture energy to evaluate the low temperature cracking resistance of high modulus asphalt binders(HMABs) was compared. The results show that the creep stiffness cannot be used to evaluate low temperature cracking resistance of HMABs due to the significant differences in the fracture toughness of different types of HMABs. The fracture energy ranking of asphalt binders is consistent with that of the critical curvature strain energy of asphalt mixtures. The fracture energy is suitable for low temperature cracking resistance evaluation of HMABs. As there are significant differences in low temperature cracking resistance of different types of HMABs, both the asphalt binder test and the asphalt mixture test are suggested to evaluate the low temperature cracking resistance of HMABs to ensure the feasibility of their application.
