Abstract:Thiopave is a new kind of asphalt concrete modifier with warm mixing effect. Its employment has been gradually popularized and applied to the highways of the southwestern mountainous area. However, there is a lack of systematic experimental data to verify its modification effectiveness. A series of laboratory and field tests were conducted to analyze and compare the overall performance parameters of Thiopave modified asphalt concrete. According to the laboratory test results, with increasing content of Thiopave modifier, the complex shear modulus and rutting factor of the modified asphalt are increased, and the temperature sensitivity and the high temperature stability are also enhanced. All in all, considering a number of performance parameters and the cost of the modified asphalt concrete, 30%(by mass) of Thiopave would be a relatively superior content. Moreover, Thiopave could improve the high temperature performance and water damage resistance of the asphalt concrete. Based on the field study of a typical highway test section in a southwestern mountainous area, the overall performance of Thiopave modified asphalt concrete has demonstrated to be satisfactory in the past five years, and the comprehensive performance of Thiopave modified asphalt mixture is verified.
