Abstract:To improve the mechanical properties of thin porcelain tile, the influence of adding short ZrO2 fiber as reinforcement on the properties of porcelain was studied. The results show that the toughness will decrease when ZrO2 fiber content(by mass)is below 40%. The bending strength increases by 1084% to 7760MPa while the work of fracture decreases 2236% to 38321J/m2 when ZrO2 fiber content is 20%. The loose microstructure of ZrO2 fiber, its transition from tetragonal phase to cubic phase, its inhabiting effect on melt of SiO2 phase and precipitation of mullite are all disadvantages of reinforcement and toughening.
