Abstract:Experimental study on frost heave of saturated silty clay under six conditions was conducted. The results show that cooling temperature, compactness, temperature gradient, overburden pressure and water supply condition are the key factors for frost heave. The temperature gradient, cooling temperature and overburden pressure are inversely proportional to frost heave. The compactness is proportional to frost heave. The frost heave ratio is an important index to characterize frost susceptibility, which is related to material parameters and freezing conditions. Finally, control measures of frost heave used to guide engineering practice is proposed base on the experimental study.
