Abstract:Basalt fiber bundle specimens were tested at different strain rates and temperatures utilizing a drop tower impact system. Results show that mechanical properties of basalt fiber bundle are sensitive to strain rate and temperature. When the temperature is constant, elastic modulus and tensile strength increase with increasing strain rate, but maximum strain and toughness at first increase and then decreases with increasing strain rate. When the strain rate is constant and temperature is increasing, elastic modulus decreases, maximum strain and toughness show the opposite trend, tensile strength at first decreases and then increases.
