Abstract:Based on damage mechanics and strain equivalence principle, the damage of (brick) masonry under freeze thaw cycles and axial compression was discussed in terms of the nonlinear coupling of freeze thaw damage and axial compression damage. Then the evolution equations for two damages were deduced. The evolution equation for the damage of masonry under freeze thaw cycles and axial compression was deduced. Furthermore, the damage constitute model of masonry under freeze thaw cycles and axial compression was put forward, which was verified by the axial compression experimental data of masonry under freeze thaw cycles. It is indicated that the damage constitutive model of masonry under freeze thaw cycles and axial compression is in good agreement with axial compression experimental data of masonry under freeze thaw cycles, which can be beneficial for the finite element simulation and durability assessment for existing masonry structure in the cold region.
