Abstract:The properties such as surface hardness, compressive strength, freeze thaw resistance of (traditional) sticky rice lime mortars prepared with different kinds of lime were determined, microscopic structures of limes and sticky rice lime mortars were observed, and the influence mechanism of lime type on properties of sticky rice lime mortar was discussed. Results indicate that the compressive strength, surface hardness and freeze thaw resistance of sticky rice lime mortars prepared with analytical pure CaO and industrial CaO are superior to those of sticky rice lime mortars prepared with analytical pure Ca(OH)2 and industrial hydrated lime. The properties such as compressive strength of sticky rice lime mortars prepared with analytical pure CaO are the best. It is suggested that analytical pure CaO could be used to prepare sticky rice lime mortar in conservation of brick and stone relics. The micro sized platelike Ca(OH)2 crystals produced from CaO aging are responsible for compact microstructure of sticky rice lime mortar prepared with CaO, which could explain good properties such as high compressive strength of sticky rice lime mortar prepared with CaO.
