Abstract:Compatibility of the polycarboxylic superplasticizer(PC) and shrinkage reducing admixture(SRA) was investigated by assessing the interaction between PC and SRA in cement mixtures, e.g., the influence of SRA on the plasticizing effect of PC, the influence of PC on shrinkage mitigation of SRA, and the effect on strength of cement mixed with PC and SRA. The results indicate that SRA can slightly enhance the plasticizing effect of PC in cement mixture, since the presence of SRA can slightly reduce the zeta potential of cement particles in PC system. The extensibility of PEO is stretched in the presence of the SRA. On the other hand, the shrinkage reducing effect of SRA was significantly improved in the presence of PC. In addition, the negative effect of SRA on strength of cement mixture can be mitigated by the cooperation of the PC.
