Abstract:The self locking anchor(SLA) system for fiber reinforced polymer(FRP) comprises two anchor heads, bolts and FRP. Unlike the FRP sheets, sheets used for the SLA are without epoxy resin. The axial extension tests were conducted on 4 groups of carbon fiber sheet, with the main parameters being fracture modes, ultimate loads and elastic modulus. Based on the test results, the breaking stress of the carbon fiber sheet without epoxy resin was about 50% of the carbon fiber sheet with it, and the elastic modulus reduced by 13%. The mechanical properties of carbon fiber sheet without epoxy resin were lower than those with epoxy resin. 7 groups of SLA were loaded till failure after 850 hours of environmental exposure under different pre stress. The test result shows that shape of anchor heads affects the failure mode of the carbon fiber sheet mostly. The failure mode of specimens in which the anchor heads are of square end is the shear failure of carbon fiber sheet, while it is the tension failure for specimens in which the anchor heads are of round end. It can be found from mechanical deduction that the tensile strength of the carbon fiber sheet is about 20 times of their shear strength. The shear failure mode will be delayed with the increase of the diameter of concrete columns.
