Abstract:A new method to measure the pressure of ice formation was proposed in this paper, and the effects of factors on pressure of ice formation were investigated, such as NaCl concentration, degree of saturation and restraint conditions. Results show that pressure of ice formation is very high at the strong restraint, about 40.3 MPa for water and is reduced with the increase of NaCl concentration, and with the decrease of the degree of restraint and saturation. These results are useful for understanding the mechanisms of the frost damage, especial for the understanding of the frost damage in salt solution.
